Summer is almost here, have you noticed how your skin tends to get oily? Does oily skin automatically mean you have an oily skin type? This time, the shop owner wants to share some insights on different skin types, helping you understand your own skin attributes and the suitable ingredients in handmade soaps for each type. This will assist you in selecting the right skincare products to improve your skin concerns and achieve a hydrated and beautiful complexion.
In general, skin types can be categorized into four main types based on the level of sebum production and skin hydration: normal skin, oily skin, dry skin, and combination skin. Additionally, there is also a type called sensitive skin, which doesn’t have a clear-cut definition. It’s important to note that skin type isn’t a fixed and unchanging classification; seasonal transitions can also impact the condition of your skin. Moreover, your skin type may change due to skincare improvements, so it’s crucial to pay attention to your skin’s current condition in order to provide appropriate care. For instance, we once had a customer who believed they had oily skin because they were prone to breakouts. As a result, they used deep-cleansing facial cleansers for an extended period. However, it turned out that excessive cleansing caused dryness in the deeper layers of their skin, leading to an oily T-zone but overall dry skin. Once they switched to using handmade soap for washing their face, they noticed an improvement in their skin. They discovered that using skincare products suitable for normal skin helped achieve the ideal balance of neither oily nor dry skin. Surprisingly, they found some refreshing products they previously used to be overly drying.
Now, let’s take a quick test to determine your skin attributes and understand your skin type.

Category A: Dry Skin
For dry skin, it’s important to prioritize moisturization. We recommend using handmade soaps with nourishing formulas for facial cleansing, along with moisturizing products like floral water and face creams. Opt for handmade soaps that contain ample amounts of moisturizing oils such as shea butter, mango butter, cocoa butter, and others. These soaps also contain glycerin, which offers gentle cleansing and helps prevent dryness.
Category B: Normal Skin
Congratulations, you have the ideal skin type! Normal skin can benefit from most handmade soaps. After washing your face with a handmade soap, you can simply use floral water or choose not to use any additional moisturizing products.
Category C: Combination Skin
For combination skin, it’s essential to maintain a balance between oil and moisture. Avoid excessive moisturization or cleansing. Look for handmade soaps that strike a balance between moisturization and freshness. Additionally, you can choose soaps tailored to address specific skin concerns. For example, handmade soaps infused with hazelnut oil can help with acne, while those with gentle exfoliating properties can aid in removing dead skin cells. Mineral clay soaps are also effective in reducing oiliness and combatting acne-prone skin.
Category D: Oily Skin
With oily skin, cleansing is a priority. However, be cautious about using cleansers with an excessive amount of chemicals, as they can excessively dry out your skin, exacerbating the oiliness. Instead, opt for handmade soaps containing ingredients such as rice bran oil, coconut oil, hazelnut oil, and others.
Category E:
Sensitive Skin Sensitive skin requires special attention to moisturization and avoiding irritants. Choose natural skincare products to minimize the potential irritation caused by chemicals. Consider using handmade soaps made with gentle and moisturizing oils like olive oil, shea butter, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, as well as soaps infused with anti-allergic herbal ingredients such as comfrey, lavender, calendula, and others. After cleansing, you can use floral water to provide additional hydration.

The distinguishing feature of natural cold-process handmade soaps is that they are free from added chemicals. During the production process, glycerin is naturally generated through the “saponification reaction.” Those who have used these soaps often describe a more moisturizing washing experience, leaving no tightness or discomfort after rinsing, and reducing skin irritation. Over time, regular use of these soaps can help restore your skin’s health and improve any skin issues you may be facing.
