Extra virgin olive oil, water, sodium hydroxide, rose geranium essential oil

A Brief Story of Soap:

In Greek mythology, olive oil was a gift from the goddess Athena. Athena and Poseidon, the god of the sea, competed to become the patron of the city of Attica. Poseidon struck his trident into the ground, causing a powerful water surge, showcasing the strength of the sea. In contrast, Athena quietly planted a seed, which grew into an olive tree, symbolising peace and prosperity. Athena won the contest and became the guardian of Attica, which was later renamed Athens, the capital of modern Greece. Hence, olive oil carries a sacred significance in religion. Apart from its moisturizing properties, olive oil is also rich in natural antioxidants like polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects.

During the Crusades, Aleppo soap from Syria was introduced to Europe, where soap became increasingly popular. However, since Aleppo soap was made from olive oil and locally abundant laurel oil, the latter was difficult to obtain in Europe. As a result, Muslims in Spain began using only olive oil to make soap, giving rise to what is now known as Castilla soap.
